Skrill Monthly Awards – March

Hill Playing His Cards Right

Woking boss Garry Hill has been named the ‘Manager of the Month’ for March in The Skrill Premier. Hill’s side had a 100% record during the period and took notable scalps along the way. They started off at the Hive where Barnet’s bid for a sixth straight win was shot down with a 3-1 victory. They then achieved home wins over Southport and Wrexham either side of arguably their best performance of the month. That came in the live BT Sports game at Kenilworth Road where they beat leaders Luton 1-0 – a result which ended the Hatters’ 27-game unbeaten run. The display on the night winning plaudits from across the division. Hill took the award on a panel decision with FC Halifax Town’s Neil Aspin, also with a 100% March record, runner-up by the tightest of margins.
AFC Telford United’s Liam Watson is The Skrill North ‘Manager of the Month’ for March. The Bucks are now favourites for the title following a month in which they were undefeated in their five matches. Watson’s side took 13 points from a possible 15, including home wins over Oxford City, Histon and Bradford Park Avenue. Away matches at Stalybridge and Leamington resulted in a win and a draw respectively.
Paul Doswell from Sutton United is The Skrill South ‘Manager of the Month’ for March. Doswell takes the award for an unprecedented third consecutive month after getting his hands on both the January and February trophies. United remain unbeaten in 2014 and have their eyes on promotion to the Premier division. Doswell’s side played eight times during the period and their wins in that time included success at promotion rivals Bromley. Coming from behind to win 4-2 at Hayes Lane.
Gregory The Shay-man At The Top Of The Charts!

Lee Gregory of FC Halifax Town is The Skrill Premier ‘Player of the Month’ for March. The in-demand striker turned even more heads with his displays during the month, scoring seven times in five matches. His tally including a hat-trick at Hyde in a 5-1 win and a brace on BT Sports as his side saw off Alfreton in a promotion clash. Gregory’s showdown with February ‘player of the month’ Andre Gray resulted in Gregory finding the net for the 27th time this season as the Shaymen beat leaders Luton 2-0 to consolidate their place in the all-important ‘top 5’.
Nicky Clee from Altrincham is the The Skrill North ‘Player of the Month’ for March. Clee has been both provider and scorer during the period as Altrincham moved out of the chasing pack to challenge the top two in the table. The left-winger hit vital goals against Workington and Colwyn Bay at either end of the month but also contributed with a number of assists. The goal at Colwyn Bay a highlight – his free-kick from 30 yards finding the net in spectacular fashion to secure all three points from Altrincham’s trip to north Wales.
Sutton United striker Gavin McCallum has been named The Skrill South ‘Player of the Month’ for March. Canadian born McCallum has made a real impression during the period as United extended their unbeaten record for the calendar year. McCallum took just 38 seconds to get off the mark as he opened his account on the first day against Chelmsford City. Then in the clash away at promotion rivals Bromley he was introduced to the action with just 21 minutes remaining and his side trailing 2-1. United eventually running out 4-2 winners in a turnaround inspired, in part, by the introduction of the 26-year-old. He also scored a brace in the 4-0 home win over Basingstoke and the opener in the 2-0 home win over Gosport Borough. Featuring in all eight of his sides matches and making it a Sutton March double with manager Paul Doswell.
