“Snow Way” will the Bees Give Up

Who would have expecting snow in early spring? Well that’s exactly what the Barnet faithful woke up to yesterday morning before the crucial match v promotion hopefuls Cheltenham Town.

Rather than calling the game off after an early pitch inspection, Head Groundsman Barry Moggridge reassured the referee that with help, he could have the pitch and surrounding areas cleared within a few hours.

At 9.15 am the first tweet went out from @barnetfc asking for volunteers to help clear the stadium. What ensued is something to be proud off.

Within 20 minutes and despite snowy blustery conditions over 20 volunteers arrived and the clearance began.

One of the first to show was Ian Abrahams AKA Moose from TalkSport with his 7 year old daughter Skye. ‘I was due to be commentating on this game today and as soon as I heard the club needed help we jumped in the car and headed down here’

Young loyal fan Solomon Trupinski, 15,  talking on ITV London News ‘ Saturday wouldn’t be the same without a Barnet match and I wanted to make sure I did my bit to make sure this game went ahead’

After a further pitch inspection at 11.15am and with over 70 volunteers happily beavering away at clearing the snow it was ‘Game On’

Thank you to everyone that helped yesterday at short notice which resulted in the game going ahead despite all odds. The large and appreciative crowd were happily rewarded with a reasonable point along the way.
