Key Personnel: Glaswegian Derek Adams is now at the helm at Home Park. Adams had a seven year relationship as manager at Ross County, where he also played for five seasons. He joined Plymouth after being voted SPFA Manager of the Year in June 2015.

Brief Directions by Road: From the end of the M5 the A38 is the road into Plymouth. The signposts for Home Park are abundant and almost plead your interest. Stay on the A38 until you can turn left onto A386. You will see the ground on your left and the car parks adjacent to it. It is that simple as that!

Car Parking: The “first come first served car parks” are free but are normally full about 45 minutes before kick-off. Street parking is available further on from the ground on the A386 but access is from the opposite carriageway.

Directions by Train: A late morning train from Paddington will easily reach Plymouth by teatime. The station is a good 20 minute walk away from the ground through the very picturesque Home Park, one again signs beckon you towards the stadium. Just take on board getting back to the Smoke will be impossible directly after the game!

Eating and Drinking Locally: The Britannia in Wolseley Road, which is the local Whetherspoons outlet, appears to be the only decent pub for a drink and a meal. It’s a short 10 minute walk from the ground. Alcohol is served inside the ground and the normal football fayre is on offer.

Ground Description: Home Park is now a mix of 21st century efficiency with three new stands and the beauty, elegance and craft of one of the few surviving Archibald Leitch designed grandstands of the 1930’s. The stadium currently has room for around 22,000.

Previous Meetings and Memories: March 2013 and a Jake Hyde goal was not enough in a 2-1 defeat last time we visited Home Park. The away fixture in September 2000 saw the Bees come away with a stunning 3-2 victory in front of 3,423 thanks to a brace from Tony Richards and Mark Arber. Barnet travelled to Argyle way back 1984 in the FA Cup 1st Round when the Bees were a struggling Gola League side and were beaten 3-0.

Drawing a “big” name in the Cup in those days was the highlight of the season more often than not. A mighty day out was had by all and tales galore of that day could be remembered in The Hive Bar over a beer if you feel you want to know! I take no shame in reeling off the side that day full of great Barnet FC characters!

Celebrity Watch: Autograph books handy? Sailors Sir Francis Drake and William Bligh used to hang around the local Bowling Alleys. Labour Leader Sir Michael Foot, Actors Sir Donald Sindon and Richard (Robin Hood) Greene lived here. Ballet dancer Wayne Sleep, Comedienne Dawn French and Newsreader Angela Rippon might just be walking along the quayside too. Water babies Sharon Davies and Tom Daley and footballer Trevor Francis also hail from these parts.
