Transfer | Dan Sparkes signs for Barnet FC

The 26-year-old made 25 appearances in the National League last campaign under the tutelage of John Still, scoring on four occasions.

His career began at Southern League Histon in 2009 before joining Braintree Town in the summer of 2012. After some very successful seasons with the Iron including helping the side reach the National League play-offs, he made the move down to Torquay United in 2016.

He was a first-team regular with the Gulls, scoring 6 times and assisting 14 in 36 appearances. Still made the move for him last summer and has done the same this season as well.

Speaking following is arrival, Sparkes was clearly pleased to be arriving at Barnet.

“I’m buzzing to be here. I know the gaffer and the coaching staff so when I got the call about coming here, I was delighted.

“It’s a great club, I’ve played against Barnet before so I know what the scenes are like. The lads are sound, I’ve fitted in quite well and it’s back to work!”

Manager John Still says that supporters will enjoy watching Sparkes play.

“Sparksey I bought to Dagenham where we were searching high and low for a naturally left-sided player that can cross early and he ticked all of the boxes.

“We had to wait a year to get him if I’m being honest, but when he came in last season, he missed the start due to a pre-season injury but once he got into it he was a massive, massive plus for us.

“As I say, he’s a naturally left-sided player with a great left foot so I’m looking forward to working with him here at Barnet and I think he will be a player that supporters will take to because they’ll see his obvious crossing qualities.”

A full interview with Dan Sparkes will be available shortly.
