Barnet Under 21 Development Squad had another tough fixture against Brentford at the Hive on Tuesday. This was again another frustrating performance by the team, who ended up losing the game 3-2 after being three nil down at one point.
Barnet started the game brightly enough with some good passages of play down both flanks , Allen and Edgar attacking their full backs and getting shots away. In midfield were two young professionals in Ahmed Abdulla and Olly Lee who also started the match well dictating the pace of the game.
On 6 minutes, Jack Saville found himself free at the far post from a corner but failed to hit the target. On 8 minutes however, Brentford took the lead. After not being in our half up to that point, the away side scored from 16 yards after some poor marking from a throw in down their left side.
Brentford started to take control of the game and frustrated the home side with good possession. Defensively they were strong and organised and kept a good shape. Barnet did have shots during the first half but never really troubled the visitor’s keeper. With 24 minutes played Brentford went two up when a cross from the right allowed Brentford’s left winger a simple tap in.
At half time the coaches spoke to the players about being organised and taking responsibility when they are out on the pitch. Barnet didn’t hold the ball up enough which didn’t give our back four a chance to get out because it kept coming back.
On 55 minutes Brentford went three up when a shot from the edge of the box beat Cowler at his near post. Barnet did however pull back two late goals courtesy of Iffy Allen. Allen scored his first from an Olly Lee cross and converted a penalty for his second after being tripped in the box.
