U23s | Mars scores as young Bees defeat Colchester

The Young Bees started brightly, Shane Cojocarel laying off Malakai Mars, but his effort was blocked.

On 10 minutes, Barnet took the lead. The move was started by Nana Kyei who made a good move down the left hand side. He passed to Trialist Two who poked the ball through to Malakai Mars who tucked the ball low into the bottom right corner.

Ephron Mason-Clark had the next best opportunity of the match. He was given time and space to bring the ball forward and fired just wide of the post from 20 yards.

Early into the second half, Renell McKenzie-Lyle pulled off an important save to deny what was to be a certain goal, deflecting an effort destined for the bottom corner around the post with his leg.

In the 57th minute, Colchester tied the game following a header from a corner not dealt with effectively by the Barnet defence.

On the hour mark, Michael Nelson brought on the rest of his substitutes, including Justin Amaluzor who almost made an instant impact, forcing the Colchester ‘keeper into a low save.

Amaluzor made an excellent run in the 78th minute, bringing the ball from the half way line down the left hand side. He unselfishly passed it across to the unmarked Trialist Four who tapped home.

The Bees made it three moments later in a very similar move. Amaluzor found Trialist Six who rounded the keeper and scored to put the game beyond any doubt.
