Barnet FC are delighted to announce that Gary Waddock has joined the first team coaching staff on a full-time basis.

Waddock has been working with the Bees on a casual basis since pre-season, and will now become a full-time member of Martin Allen’s coaching staff after being offered a rolling month-to-month contract.

Gary has enjoyed much success during his coaching career to date, including winning the Conference with Aldershot in 2007/08 with a record points total of 101 points that was only matched by Luton last season.

He then went to Wycombe Wanderers, where he enjoyed a promotion to League One after guiding the Chairboys to a third-place finish in 2010/11. He was appointed as Head of Coaching at Milton Keynes Dons by Karl Robinson last summer, before taking over at Oxford United towards the end of last season although he would move on in July following a change of ownership.

Reacting to his appointment with the Bees, Gary said:

“It is strange really as I’ve been here since pre-season so it is not my first day or anything like that but I’m delighted. Martin has been first-class, as have the players and the Chairman by allowing me to join the staff.

“The way that the players go about their business on the training ground – they have taken that into games and have had a fantastic start. I’ve been to most of the home games so I have been able to watch them perform and with the support that the players are getting as well they are right behind the team so at the moment everything is ticking along nicely.

“The players and Martin have started this season off really well and put themselves in a good position so confidence amongst the group is very high and there is a real togetherness amongst the group as well so there is a fantastic feel about the place.

“Martin and I have known each other for a long time and he invited me in at first to get myself back onto the training ground and get a smile back on my face. He has been first-class so it is nice that I can work alongside him, as well as Stacky and Nursey because they have had a big input as well so I am really looking forward to it all.”

Martin Allen meanwhile said that he was delighted to have added a new face to his coaching team, saying:

“It’s a good appointment. He is a good coach and now I have got a full-time member of staff which is good news for me. It is going to be big help to me. We have done well to get him on board.

“He has won the Conference with 101 points as manager of Aldershot, he has won promotion with Wycombe Wanderers and he has done an excellent job as a coach at MK Dons, where the people there gave him a fantastic reference.

“In the summer we gave Nursey and Stacky a player-coach role and nothing is going to change with those two. Graham Stack and Nursey have worked extremely long hours. Stacky and Nurse have been fantastic. They have both stepped up; they both have an opinion, they have both challenged me, helped me, supported me and given me guidance. Both of them have been absolutely spot-on.

“Now all three of them will work together; there are no levels of seniority between the three of them. All three of them are coaches, all three of them are top people and all three of them will be there to help me, support me and look after me to help me manage it. It’s another person around my table that can challenge, put a view forward and take us up another level.”
