Andy Yiadom is hoping Barnet can continue their impressive defensive form and extend their run of successive clean sheets to five against Chesterfield on Saturday.

The 21-year-old played in the right-back position against AFC Wimbledon on Monday and he is likely to continue in the role against the Spireites. 

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s match, Yiadom explained how the team are taking each game as it comes in order to secure the highest possible points total.

“We want and need to win as many games as possible. We are not thinking about any other results because we know if we win we will stay up.

“We have got a good squad and we can win any game so hopefully it is now onwards and upwards.”

The winger also expressed his pride and described the importance of Barnet’s impressive home record which has seen them lose just once at Underhill since Edgar Davids took charge.

“We are very good at home so it is great to be at Underhill on Saturday. We have the ability and we have a lot of good players so we want to win the game.

“Winning away and knowing that you’re at home next time out gives you a great confidence boost. We just want the three points.”

The Bees were under pressure for the majority of Monday’s match at Kingsmeadow and Yiadom admitted it was tough playing in an unfamiliar role.

“It was a tough game but wherever I am played I will try my best for the team. Getting the three points was the main thing.

“You have got to be really focussed, stay up with your centre-backs, look behind and be alert.

“It is totally different to playing on the wing because your first thought has to be defending.”

He continued by hailing the performances of goalscorer Keanu Marsh-Brown and goalkeeper Graham Stack.

“Keanu came in front of me and he kept their left back running back rather than forward. It gave me a bit of relief and it really helped the team.

“Stacky also played a key role, he is a brilliant keeper and he made a brilliant save. He has a lot of experience but to pull that out was very special.”

He added: “I had a lot to do and they put a lot of pressure on us. Keeping a fourth successive clean sheet and nicking a goal was a great outcome.

“We defended well and it was our fourth consecutive clean sheet. To come in as a winger and keep that going is great.”
